PHANTASM EXPLAINED
Phantasm is a donor-funded gallery displaying art, and paying artists.
Thanks to donors, we’re able to compensate the artists we feature every month with a gratuity payment.
For us, curating is more than just a scattershot selection of artwork displayed with no motive. Our process begins with the selection of a linguistic muse—an articulated thought, quote, or excerpt from a book or article. We then curate visual artwork for the written muse accordingly, and feature them together. What (we hope) results is an enhancement and reinforcement of one another, lingual and visual: a more meaningful association with each part of the whole, because the combination of the two is purposeful and coordinated in a thoughtful manner.
PAYING ARTISTS
In these times of social media, art is all too often appropriated, altered, and devalued. Phantasm Gallery believes that respect for art and artist not only extends to crediting artists and sharing their work without alteration, but also paying artists a gratuity for impermissibly sharing their artwork. That’s why we created a subsidy for our Fair Share Initiative in 2020, and, since then, have been paying artists around the world whose work we feature each month on our website, and Instagram account.
Since 2020, we’ve paid a total of

to artists around the world.

The amount varies month-to-month based on the number of donations we receive and the number of images featured by our gallery. Phantasm Gallery pays the artists whose work we feature, but don’t just take our word for it—take a look at the documentation of all the payments we’ve distributed to artists over the years. We want to assure donors and artists that our intentions and actions are transparent, and true to our word.
